WHERE WE’RE FISHING

Upper Columbia River

Open and productive all year the Upper Columbia River is an amazing fishery . The size and power of this river system is revealed through the strong fighting, line pulling, acrobatic Rainbows that thrive here in abundance.

Diverse and incredible insect hatches of the spring, summer and fall blanket the water and cloud the air. It is amazing to see hundreds of large trout feasting on the surface during this time and breathtaking watching one take your fly. Weighing in at 2-5 pounds and 20+ inches are the majority of the fish caught, with big slabs in the 6-10+ pound range out there lurking in the water and occasionally being caught by that lucky someone.

Slocan River

A drift down the Slocan river is beautiful to say the least and so are the fish. Depending on what you are presenting to these fish, they will take the fly in their own way.

From rolling or explosive takes, delicate sips or audible chomps, having one of these fish take your fly for a rip through the clean, crystal clear water is a real joy. Deep pools, fast bends, riffles and runs. With excellent structure, the Slocan river offers a good challenge in presentation and casting with rewarding hook ups and scrappy fights. 12-16 inch fish are the majority in this river but when you hook one in the 18-24 inch range you'll know you have made that presentation irresistible.

MEET YOUR GUIDE

Fly fishing in the West Kootenays

Joe Pelz, licensed fishing guide.

Like many other passionate fishermen, I threw my first hook in the water at the age of 5 and will never forget it.

Ever since that day I have admired fishing, the dynamics in the art of fly fishing and have developed a personal respect for the fish, their spirit and the ecosystems they call home.

I have been very fortunate over the years to have fished for many different species throughout Western Canada, Yukon, NorthWest Territories and even into the far reaches of the Canadian Arctic.

Over the last 6 years my wife and I have settled into this beautiful area of the West Kootenays, and it's here that we are happy to call home.

Getting out on the water is where I want to be and having the opportunity to share my 20+ years experience with others is a dream come true.
